MG

I am generally a muscle car kind of guy or even an old Auburn or Cord, but I do have an appreciation for British sports cars especially the XK120s and the Austin Healys. My appreciation stems from my brother's Miata (the Japanese take on the genre); a modern more comfortable version of these small convertibles that zipped along happily around the twisting roads (the older roadsters often consuming quarts of oil at a time as well). There is something to flying down an open road top down in a car with your love by your side that gives a feeling of freedom and exhiliration other cars fail to match.

While stopping for some soup at Panera, i spotted a rare sight in these parts; an MG TF. I have seen plenty of MGAs or MGBs but the older MGs are a bit harder to come by and it's nice to see that it was a driver. I am sure like most british roadsters of the day it was uncomfortable, creaky and leaks everywhere but I am sure it's a ball to drive!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Yes, I realize I have a tendency to post on holidays. I suppose it just happens to be when I am inspired to write. Speaking of inspiration, I cannot remember a St. Patrick's day when I could wear short sleeves without ending up with pneumonia. These past couple days have been fantastic!

Today I pause and think of my Irish heritage, for me it's a little more foggy compared to the rest of my proud lineage, but there is no mistaking which side my red beard comes from. I enjoy the traditions with my mother's corn beef and cabbage, spinning an Irish rovers LP (love "the orange and the green") and then of course the fun local tradition: a fifty cent ice cream cone at Stewarts if you wear green.

My real inspiration was the warm spring weather. We had the blooming flowers amongst the brown leaves, the scattered pine cones where there was once snow, the budding of the old red maple (sooner than I can ever remember) and the removal of the snow blower from my father's tractor for the mower deck. Granted we could easily have a snow storm in a week, March often provides the worst snow falls of the year. But as my father said, "...this time of year it will melt the next day". Yesterday, after the tractor conversion, I grabbed my iPhone to take a walk in my Dr. Scholl's "Indy" Boots, Dickies, and 3/4 sleeve baseball shirt, and I captured what I felt were the early symbols of spring.
